Why we recommend it

If you want a safe, premium Sauvignon Blanc that feels riper, more textural and more “grown-up” than the usual sharp styles, this is an easy win.

Best for: warm afternoons, BBQs, weekend lunches, or an easy crowd-pleaser white

Drink it with: oysters, prawns, grilled fish, goat’s cheese, or a herb-heavy summer salad.

Greywacke is classic Marlborough with extra generosity and weight — fresh, clean, and seriously food-friendly. It’s a great pick if you love Sauvignon but want more depth, and just as good if you normally avoid “too grassy” whites.

Producer: Greywacke

Greywacke is a quality focused winemaking venture that sources fruit from mature vineyards within the central Wairau Plains and the Southern Valleys. These prime viticultural sites are cultivated using yield restricting vineyard management techniques and intense canopy management regimes. A number of the vineyards are owned by the Sutherland family, while complementary grape parcels are acquired from additional select sites, all located within these sub-regions.

Food pairing suggestions

This wine pairs effortlessly with fresh seafood, from grilled and pan-fried fish to sashimi. Poached or steamed chicken, green vegetables, beans, peas, and fresh herbs complement its crisp character.

It also matches beautifully with lobster, shellfish, and oysters. Creamy sauces, brie, camembert, blue cheese, sautéed or fried dishes, onion, garlic, roasted capsicum, spicy foods, pasta, potatoes, and white starches round out the pairing.
